Accessibility statement

Last updated:

Clear Tangle should work for everyone who saves more than they can remember, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification, or reduced motion. This statement explains what we aim for, what we do, where we still fall short, and how to reach us.

Our goal

We aim for the cleartangle.com website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. WCAG is the W3C standard for making web content usable by people with disabilities, and Level AA is the benchmark most often used for websites in the US.

This statement covers the cleartangle.com website, including our product pages, documentation, and blog. If something in the Clear Tangle apps gets in your way, we want to hear about that too.

What we do

Our design system builds these practices into every page:

  • Keyboard access. Links, buttons, menus, tabs, and accordions work with a keyboard, and a "Skip to content" link is the first stop on every page.
  • Visible focus. A 2px focus ring shows which element is active.
  • Contrast. Text colors are chosen to reach at least 4.5:1 against their background, and form borders, focus rings, and icons at least 3:1.
  • Reduced motion. If your device asks for reduced motion, animations are skipped and content appears in its final state. We don't use looping, autoplaying, or parallax motion.
  • Text alternatives. Meaningful images have alt text, and decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
  • Structure. Each page has one main heading, headings follow a logical order, and page regions are marked up so screen readers can move between them.
  • Color is never the only signal. Errors show an icon and a message, and links underline when you hover over them.
  • Comfortable targets. We size buttons and links for touch, aiming for at least 44 by 44 pixels.

Known limitations

We're still working on parts of the site, and some things are outside our control:

  • Some older pages, including parts of the documentation and blog, are still moving to our current design system and may not meet every guideline yet.
  • Product illustrations on marketing pages summarize the interface rather than reproduce it, so they may not describe every detail in text.
  • Pages from other services we link to, such as the App Store, file download pages, Discord, and social networks, follow those services' own accessibility practices.

If any of these gets in your way, tell us and we'll help you get the information another way.
