What is Clear Tangle?
Clear Tangle is an AI-powered personal knowledge management app for connected work. It captures notes, voice, images, Slack messages, emails, meetings, and desktop ideas; organizes them with AI; extracts and updates tasks; grows a Memory Vault; and lets you chat with your knowledge base.
How is Clear Tangle different from Notion, Obsidian, or Roam?
Clear Tangle is designed as an AI-native workspace that connects capture, retrieval, tasks, durable memory, and reviewable automation.

Clear Tangle is available as a web app, an iPhone app on the App Store, and native desktop apps for Windows, macOS, and Linux with global shortcuts. Android is on the roadmap.
Do you have a command-line interface (CLI)?
Yes. The Clear Tangle CLI lets you manage tasks, thoughts, pages, and projects from a terminal with JSON output, smart search, AI planning, and shell completions.
Privacy & Security
Is my data private and secure?
Clear Tangle uses encryption in transit and at rest, does not sell customer data, and does not use customer data to train public AI models. Export, deletion, source links, review queues, and approval controls help users keep AI-assisted work inspectable and under their control.
What AI models do you use? Is my data used to train them?
Clear Tangle uses AI models for chat, search, summaries, planning, and analysis. Customer data is not used to train public AI models, and product workflows use source links, permissions, review controls, and export and deletion options.
Can I self-host Clear Tangle?
Clear Tangle does not currently offer self-hosting. Enterprise self-hosted options are being considered; organizations with specific compliance requirements can contact support.
Features
How does AI task extraction work?
When you save a capture, Clear Tangle analyzes the content for commitments and action items. Suggested tasks can be reviewed and accepted, and each task links back to its source capture for context.
What is Memory Vault?
Memory Vault is Clear Tangle’s durable memory layer for user and project context. It can preserve important facts, decisions, preferences, completed work, and integration context so ChatMind, task planning, project routing, and agents can use better context over time.
What can Clear Tangle do in Slack?
The Slack AI workspace supports capture, task commands, channel and thread summaries, daily digests, attention triage, draft replies for review, and ChatMind answers to substantive Clear Tangle mentions in approved channels.
Can Clear Tangle update tasks from Gmail?
Yes. Clear Tangle can match high-confidence Gmail follow-ups or receipts to existing tasks, then complete, reschedule, comment on, or propose updates. Uncertain task changes can be routed to review instead of being applied silently.
What is Agent Studio?
Agent Studio lets users create custom AI agents with selected tools, context, schedules, simulations, approval gates, autonomy settings, and action history for recurring workflows.
Can I use Clear Tangle by voice?
Yes. Voice workflows can find projects, list open tasks, use recent session context, and complete scoped work with confirmation safeguards.
What is Smart search?
Smart search is Clear Tangle’s semantic search. It compares concepts instead of only matching exact strings, so a search can find relevant content that uses different wording.
How does the AI chat work?
ChatMind uses retrieval-augmented generation. It retrieves relevant Clear Tangle content for a question, uses that content as context, and shows source links so the answer can be checked.
Can I import from other apps?
Yes. Clear Tangle can import Markdown exported from apps such as Notion, Obsidian, or Roam, and also supports JSON import for structured data. Imported content can then be analyzed and organized.
Pricing
Is Clear Tangle free?
Yes. The Hobby plan is free with 200 AI calls and 100 captures per month. Pro is $10 per month with 5,000 AI calls, Ultimate is $25 per month with unlimited AI calls subject to fair use, and Team plans are coming soon.
What counts as an AI interaction?
AI interactions include chat messages, task extraction requests, AI-powered capture analysis, summaries, planning, draft generation, and AI writing assistance. Plan-specific limits are shown in the app and on the pricing page.
Can I try Pro features before subscribing?
Yes. New users receive a 14-day Pro trial with full feature access and no credit card required to start. A subscription is only needed to continue using Pro after the trial.
Technical
Does Clear Tangle work offline?
Clear Tangle has partial offline support. Cached captures and pages can be browsed offline, while features that require server-side AI or fresh cloud data need an internet connection. Exact offline behavior varies by client and feature.
Can I use Clear Tangle with my AI coding assistant?
Yes. The Clear Tangle MCP server connects supported AI assistants to Clear Tangle tools for searching knowledge, managing tasks, and creating captures.
Is there an API?
Yes. Clear Tangle provides API access for supported plans. The API can create captures, query knowledge, manage tasks, and support external integrations.
